Oil stick on paper. I continue to draw thumbnail sketches from works by Chaim Soutine then using oil sticks to create a new work loosely based on the sketch, this time a cook with cap and jacket afforded the subject.
Cooking is an art, no less than if one were to paint, sing, write or dance. Starting with a blank canvas (a plate, a pan, a wok, a kettle or a pot) the cook uses intuitive applications of physics, geometry and alchemy through which a creation occurs. To all cooks with seasoning and passion in hand, a cantata with voice and instrument is offered … or in my case paper and paint.
