From the Augustus Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish, New Hampshire. Originally sketched on site in 1982, the bronze statue is a copy of the sculpture located in Washington, D.C.
“Clover” Adams was the wife of the writer Henry Adams who committed suicide in 1885. Adams commissioned Augustus Saint-Gaudens to create a memorial that would express the Buddhist idea of nirvana, a state of being beyond joy and sorrow.
This is one of two works currently on display at the reopened Rogue Gallery and Art Center, Medford, Oregon.
Musical Pairing
