Oil stick on paper. An inspiration from a painting by Wassily Kandinsky’s painting “Murnau Landscape with Tree” (1909) where I admired his integration of solids, diagonals and dabs of paint including strong complementary colors. The use of color, along with the road and figures suggested movement to me … moving me to create the painting and a poem.
Spasibo Wassily.
Walking With Wassily (a poem)
Standing in front of a painting
Hands in pocket
Squinting … smiling
Imagining the artist
In the same place
The last stroke,
Brush rested,
With the thought
“It is finished”.
All that time ago
Without the knowledge
Of who could see
This creation.
Those the artist loved
Or feared
And mostly would never know.
No matter, the invitation
Was the same …
Come walk with me
Over the edge
Into the painting.
