Recently the oldest apple tree in the Northwest died. During the autumn of 2014, while living in Vancouver, Washington, I visited the park that was named for the “Old Apple Tree”. Believed to be planted 194 years ago the tree was considered the “Matriarch of Apple Trees” for the American Northwest”. NPR produced a Story that aired nationally today while the Columbian newspaper provides the History of the tree, which started with a love story of a British soldier and his sweetheart.
In memory of the “Old Apple Tree” I am sharing “Elder Lady” painted at the magical Shelburne Orchards of a 100 year old tree. Additionally, here is the first Youtube Video I created called “Harvest Walk” with music by the “Meatpackers” and Nick Cowles, song writer and chief apple herder of Shelburne Orchards.
Thank you to life giving trees and those that are their stewards.
