I recently was introduced to a Jazz Vibes (vibraphone) great, Red Norvo. Today is his birthday, which inspired this piece. In 1933 Norvo recorded “Dance of the Octopus” considered at the time so surreal in both composition and presentation that his recording company cancelled his contract. For his courage and creative energy I offer this little painting.
